Obituary of Sylvester Strickland
Mr. Sylvester Strickland, 74, of Waldo, AR, died Friday, September 4, 2020, at the Springs of Magnolia, Magnolia, AR. Born February 27, 1946 in McNeil, AR, he was the son of the lates, James and Irene Wesley Strickland. He married Elizabeth Young on July 22, 1978.
Sylvester worked construction to provide for his family as a brick mason assistant with John Lee Smith Construction, until he retired. He dedicated his life to Christ Jesus at the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, McNeil, and later joined with the Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church, Magnolia. Sylvester was preceded in death by three brothers: J.C. Strickland, Eddie B. Strickland, Lee Chester Strickland and one sister: Girtha Lee Strickland Harris.
He leaves cherished memories of their time together with his wife of forty-two years, Elizabeth Young Strickland, one son: Marcus Strickland of Hot Springs, AR; two daughters: Shinetha Strickland of Hot Springs and Lavette Strickland of Texarkana; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three brothers: Henry "Joe" Anderson of Lewisville, AR, James Edward Strickland of Ft. Worth, TX, and Bennie Ray Strickland of El Dorado, AR; and three sisters: Gloria Biddle of Texarkana, Lula Cooper of Dallas, TX, and Bertha White of Hope, AR.
Public viewing will be Friday, September 11, 2020 from noon until 4:00 p.m. at Henderson's Mortuary, 614 Calhoun Rd., Magnolia. *Social distancing will be practiced and masks are required for admittance. Graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Rudd Cemetery, Columbia Rd 344, Magnolia, with Rev.
