Obituary of David Mathis

David Lee Mathis, 65, of Texarkana, TX, formerly of Garland City, AR, died Friday, May 15, 2020 at Wadley Regional Medical Center, Texarkana, TX. David, born February 7, 1955, in Texarkana, TX, was the son of the late Jimmy Mathis and the late Vissie Lee Brown Mathis. David was not afraid of hard work. He labored tirelessly as a farm hand with Spirit Lake in order to provide for those that he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother, Georgia Turmon, his brother, Lonnie Wardell, and his sister Gloria Jean Mathis-Robinson. David "Tatar Bug" Mathis leaves to cherish his sweet loving memories, his wife: Elaine Hood-Mathis of Garland, AR, his sister: Helen Ruth Mathis of Texarkana, TX, his brother: Jimmy Lee Mathis of Texarkana, TX, one daughter: Xishana Jackson of Texarkana, AR, three sons: Taveno Lee, Deleion Lee, and Jamon Howard of Garland, AR, a great friend in Bobby Joe Sanders of Texarkana, TX, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. There will be no public viewing at the funeral home. Due to social restrictions in place with the pandemic, Mr. Mathis will be laid to rest following a private family service, under the direction of Henderson Funeral Service.
