Obituary of Larry G Smith

Mr. Larry G. Smith entered into this world August 16, 1953. He was the son of the late Booker T. Smith and the late Irene Rudd Smith. He departed this life on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. At an early age, Larry accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with the St. James AME in Waldo, AR. He attended Waldo public school system and was a member of the Class of 1971. After graduating, he gained employment with Firestone in Magnolia, AR. He later enlisted in the armed services. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from November 28, 1972 until November 28, 1975. Larry was united in marriage to Beatrice Williams on May 24, 1978. He was employed in various positions, including SMI Steel of Magnolia, Schlumberger Well Services, and Deltic Timber. Out of all the jobs he held, his favorite, by far, was providing services for special needs adults and children at Magnolia Specialized Services. This was the most meaningful and rewarding of them all! He truly loved his clients and they loved him. After finally retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his New Orleans "Who Dat!" Saints football team, and grilling. He also had a love for music and the one-on-one domino games he played with his wife and friends. Larry never met a stranger and would open his arms to everyone he met. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Raymond Smith, and his grandson, DaVarrio Matlock. He leaves his most cherished memories to his devoted and loving wife of 41 years: Beatrice Williams Smith; two sons: Jemillian Smith of Jacksonville, AR and Douglas Williams of Gainesville, TX; one daughter: Shumbaya (Jessie) Manning Jacksonville, AR, two sisters: Virginia Brown of Magnolia, AR and Elizabeth (William) Wright of Muskegon, MI, two brothers: Harvest Smith of Avondale, AZ and Harlis Smith of Magnolia, AR, seven grandchildren: Greg, Bakari, Miniya, KaShaad, JaQualen, Jessie Jr. and Kaden, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
