Obituary of Tennie C. Watkins
Tennie C. (Sargent) Watkins was born June 21, 1923 to the union of Turner and Carrie Sargent of Magnolia, Arkansas. She was the youngest daughter of five children. She departed this life on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Magnolia Regional Medical Center.
At an early age, she became a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and served faithfully until her health failed. She was a devoted church worker, serving as an usher, Mother's Board member and other positions over the years. She also was a member of the Lucky-Six Women's Social Club. She was a graduate of Columbia High School in Magnolia, Arkansas.
On January 12, 1945, she united in holy wedlock to Oscar James Watkins. Oscar and Tennie were owners/operators of a paperhanger/painter business from 1945 until 1996. She loved to cook, home decorate and spend quality time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Turner and Carrie Sargent, brothers, Zonnie and Howard Sargent, sister, Lula Burris, husband, Oscar James Watkins, children: sons, Oscar James Watkins, Jr., James Edward Watkins, and daughter, Juanita McGaha.
She leaves to cherish her life: devoted son, Tyree Watkins (Joycelyn), Magnolia and daughters, Betty White, Magnolia, and Jeanette Watkins, of Camden, Arkansas; brother, Earnest Sargent of St. Albans, New York; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, August 15, from 12:00 noon - 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 16, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church of Magnolia, Arkansas, with Rev. Donnell Ford officiating.
